Method to find Phase Rotation

So at work recently I've had to work a few setups lately where labeling is either missing or flat out wrong, and I don't always have the luxury of waiting around. I have a rotation meter anyway, but I've also seen a few guys use some kind of tricks with a voltmeter or even just motor bump tests.
What's your preferred way to confirm it when time is tight and you need to be sure before energizing? because I feel I've burning a lot of time and energy lately
 
Using a dedicated phase rotation meter is definitely the quickest and most reliable method when label are unreliable.
For situations where you don't, a motor bump test is a common workaround, but it requires careful observation and a quick hand to de-energize.
Personally, if I absolutely had to use a voltmeter, I'd trace each phase back to a known point like a main breaker or transformer secondary where the rotation should be correct and then compare the phases by measuring voltage between them in a specific sequence like A-B, B-C, C-A, and looking for a consistent voltage drop pattern as you move the leads.
It takes practice and honestly, it can be tricky to interpret under pressure.
 
Solid analysis, the motor bump test has definitely come in handy for me a few times as well, but I agree, you need to be quick with it. Do you normally bring a rotation meter with you on-site, or do you find yourself depending on bump testing more often?
 
When labels are wrong or missing, relying on bump tests or meter tricks might save time but it's also one bad guess away from a fried system or injury. At some point, you gotta ask: is speed really worth the risk?
