Thinking about line work

I'm ready to leave maintenance behind. Now I'm stuck between two paths, doing service work in homes and businesses, which I already enjoy, or trying something totally new as a lineman apprentice with Virginia Power. I'm fine with physical work, but is it mentally challenging too? Linemen, what was your training like?

Working as a lineman is certainly tough on the body, but it can be just as demanding mentally. You'll dive into electrical theory, safety procedures, and problem-solving, all while handling high-voltage lines.

Typically, apprenticeships run for about 3 to 4 years, blending practical experience with classroom learning. A friend of mine switched from maintenance and found the mental aspects really rewarding once he got used to it.

Are you more interested in stable service work, or are you up for a combination of physical and mental challenges?

I'm drawn to the mental challenge and learning curve, but I do enjoy the familiarity of service work, just trying to figure out where I'll grow more
