I'm working on something that should resemble an excam and in one of the exercises there is a plant directly connected to a transformer. At certain intervals, distance, the order of the phases switch. Is this how it should be or is it a trick to see how much we're paying attention?

Yes, that's definitely a trick in the exercise.
Phase order doesn't just "switch" at intervals on a properly built line. They're testing if you're paying attention to consistent phase rotation.

So far the answers are 1:1, it's normal and not normal, so now I'm waiting on someone else to answer and see which one wins :)
